TMA elected Amarillo family physician Rodney B. Young, MD, to the Board of Trustees in May 2024.

“It’s a privilege and an honor to serve as a TMA trustee to help Texas physicians as we work to improve the health care system to better care for our patients, their families, and our communities,” Dr. Young said after the election.

He is thought to be the first physician from the Potter-Randall County Medical Society to serve on the TMA board. He previously served as president of the medical society.

A recent member of TMA’s Council on Science and Public Health, Dr. Young has chaired several of the association’s councils and committees including the Council on Socioeconomics, Council on Medical Education, and the Committee on Continuing Education. He joined TMA nearly 30 years ago as a medical student.

Dr. Young is an active community leader, serving on the Amarillo Hospital District Board of Managers, as a board member for several community organizations, and as both a board member and volunteer physician for Heal the City Free Clinic.

He also teaches medical students at the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center School of Medicine in Amarillo.

“I love being a physician; I love my patients, my colleagues, and the trusting relationships we build together,” Dr. Young said. Of his board service, he said, “I bring passion, experience, and tenacity, tempered with gratitude, humility, an attitude of service, and a great appreciation for the high calling of our profession to this important role.”
